Berlin, 15 May 2025 - The German Federal Film Board (FFA) is responding to the tense situation of individual production companies with one-off, selective transitional funding for the year 2025. 4.5 million euros are available for this purpose. The aim of the measure is to cushion cases of hardship in which film projects could not be realised due to a lack of funding.

The funding is aimed specifically at production companies that have not released a new German cinema film in 2024 and therefore do not receive any reference funding for 2025. These companies can now apply for funding of up to 500,000 euros for a planned film project. Only one application per company is possible.

"With this transitional funding, we want to ensure that valuable film projects do not fail due to formal hurdles," says the FFA. The initiative is intended to prevent financial gaps in the funding logic from leading to production stops.

Applications can be submitted until 26 May 2025. The existing commission for production funding is expected to decide on the allocation of funds on 14 July 2025.

The exact application conditions and further details can be found in the Information sheet on transitional funding pursuant to section 150 (6) sentence 2 FFG retrievable.
