Munich, 16 May 2025 - The Regional Court of Berlin II has ruled that the trade union Ver.di may not draw up or participate in joint remuneration rules (GVR) for dubbing script writers and dubbing directors. Ver.di had negotiated a so-called "Netflix-GVR-Synchron" together with the Bundesverband Schauspiel (BFFS) and the Bundesverband Filmton (BVFT), which also included these professional groups.
The Bundesverband Synchronregie und Dialogbuch (BSD) then filed a lawsuit, as it was of the opinion that none of the organisations involved had the necessary representativeness for these trades. The court followed this argument and prohibited Ver.di from taking action in this area.
While Ver.di plays an important role as a trade union for many employees, the BSD criticises the fact that it has penetrated areas traditionally represented by specialised copyright associations without sufficient knowledge of the industry. The complaint against the BFFS was dismissed as it had denied negotiating for dubbing scripts and dubbing directors.
The judgement is not yet final.
