When neuroscientist Emilia wakes up from a coma after brain surgery, she realises that a lot has changed. A year has passed, her young daughter is afraid of her and her work on transferring human consciousness into biosynthetic bodies is now forbidden by law. Only slowly does she realise that her consciousness has been separated from her biological body - and programmed into her own invention.
