When Leo Kirch travelled to Italy in 1956 to buy a copy of Frederico Fellini's then still unknown film "La Strada", he laid the foundations for the company with the film: Beta Film was founded three years later.

Today, Beta Film GmbH is a leading independent film and television group that produces, finances and distributes high-quality content for the global market and maintains extensive partnerships with public and private broadcasters, streaming platforms and special interest channels, production companies, cinema and video distributors as well as major film and TV festivals.

In addition, the Group is focussing on strategic alignment in new business areas through acquisitions and joint ventures. Beta Film holds stakes in production companies throughout Europe and in renowned brands such as Beta Cinema, Beta Kids & Family, Lineup Industries, Unitel and Autentic GmbH.

Founded in 1959 by Leo Kirch and owned by Jan Mojto since 2004, the company is headquartered in Munich and has branches in the USA, Latin America, Asia and Europe.
