Sonja Schwetje will become Managing Director of RTL Nord GmbH on 1 February 2025. According to Press release Schwetje succeeds Michael Pohl, who is retiring.
For Sonja Schwetje, it is a return to RTL Nord, where she began her journalistic career as a trainee in 1998. After holding various positions at RTL Nord, the business graduate moved to RTL West in Cologne in 2005 as Head of Editorial. She then joined ntv as Head of News in November 2010, became Editor-in-Chief in 2014 and finally Programme Managing Director of the news channel in 2023. Sonja Schwetje has also been Editor-in-Chief of Business and Networks at RTL NEWS since 2021. In these roles, she represented RTL Germany for several years as a board member of the industry association VAUNET and as Chair of the Board of Directors at Enex (European News Exchange). Sonja Schwetje is also Chairwoman of Bertelsmann's Press Freedom Working Group.

RTL Nord produces the regional programmes "RTL Nord" for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein and "RTL Nord" for Lower Saxony and Bremen with around 100 employees at its Hamburg, Kiel, Bremen and Hanover locations, with editorial and technical independence. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of RTL, RTL Nord also supplies the programmes and digital offerings of RTL Deutschland with journalistic content from the regions.
