Of witches, angels and heroines: 4.4 million euros in FFA funding approved

At its most recent meeting, the FFA Commission, according to Press Release extensive funding was approved for the film industry. A total of 4,399,671.50 euros were awarded, of which 2,715,000 euros were allocated to the production of twelve films. In addition, 84,671.50 euros will go towards supporting the video release of three titles, while a further 1,600,000 euros will be made available for media services.

The subsidised film projects include

Sönke Wortmann continues the "Name Trilogy" with "The Nickname". This time, the turbulent extended family meets in front of a picturesque Alpine backdrop for a wedding party that once again causes chaos. In "The Foursome", Iván Sáinz-Pardo sheds light on a supposedly harmless couple's evening that turns out to be surprisingly different. In "Kundschafter des Friedens 2", Robert Thalheim sends a group of former GDR agents on an unexpected mission that really shakes up their retirement.

Role models and social dynamics are at the centre of the ensemble comedies "Feste & Freunde - Ein Hoch auf uns!" by David Dietl and "Wunderschöner", the sequel to Karoline Herfurth's hit from 2022.

Suspense and socio-critical themes dominate Mohammad Rasoulof's award-winning drama "The Seeds of the Sacred Fig Tree", which deals with betrayal and secrets within families and society. Constanze Klaue's debut film "Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen" (Shaking a Fist at the World) depicts the challenges faced by a brother and sister in a time of social upheaval.

Professional struggles are also in the spotlight: in Petra Volpe's Swiss-German co-production "Heldin", Leonie Benesch plays a young carer who faces the challenges of her profession. In "You believe in angels, Mr Drowak?", Nicolas Steine tells the story of a committed woman who discovers and promotes the literary talent of a homeless loner.

Three films also benefit from video funding: the fantasy epic "Hagen - Im Tal der Nibelungen" and the documentaries "Riefenstahl" and "Die Unbeugsamen 2 - Guten Morgen, ihr Schönen!".
