As announced at the Berlinale, MV Filmförderung and Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) are intensifying their partnership: NDR is providing a total of 450,000 euros for film funding until the end of 2026.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is currently presenting itself at the Berlinale under the motto "Red Carpet to the Sea". According to NDR press release the federal state has proven itself as an established filming location for cinema and television productions, many of which are supported with funds from MV Filmförderung. As a partner of MV Filmförderung, NDR will increase its funding budget by 450,000 euros until 2026. This was announced on Friday at the state's Berlinale reception. "With the funds made available, further high-quality regional productions can be realised in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This will increase our nationwide visibility and strengthen the local film industry," explained Joachim Böskens, Director of the NDR Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Broadcasting Centre.

Strengthening Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a film location

Minister President Manuela Schwesig, Minister of Culture Bettina Martin and the Managing Director of MV Filmförderung, Olaf Jacobs, also announced the new cooperation in Berlin on Friday. According to Minister-President Schwesig, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern wants to continue to specifically support young filmmakers. Minister of Culture Bettina Martin also emphasised the importance of this cooperation: "With the new NDR cooperation in film funding, we are jointly sending a clear signal that the future of film and television production in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is very important to us."

Similar collaborations already exist in other NDR states in cooperation with local film funding organisations. Last year, MV Filmförderung supported around 40 projects totalling more than 1.9 million euros.
