European production and distribution company Mediawan has acquired a majority stake of 51 % in See-Saw Films, a British-Australian indie powerhouse known for its award-winning films and TV shows. The deal represents a significant milestone for Mediawan, which has made a number of major acquisitions in recent years, including a majority stake in Brad Pitt's Plan B at the end of 2022 and partnerships with The SpringHill Company and Leonine.

See-Saw Films was founded in 2008 by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman and has established itself with successful TV series such as Slow Horses and Heartstopper and films like The Power of the Dog and The King's Speech has earned an excellent reputation. The company has won 5 Oscars, 13 Emmys, 5 Golden Globes and 15 BAFTAs and is one of the most renowned production companies in the film and TV sector.

As part of the deal, Canning and Sherman will continue as co-CEOs of the company, while See-Saw's Managing Directors and Head of TV and Film in Australia, Liz Watts, will retain their positions. See-Saw will now become part of Mediawan's growing portfolio, which now includes more than 80 production labels worldwide, strengthening Mediawan's presence in the UK and Australia.

See-Saw's recent successes include the Apple TV+ spy series Slow Horseswhich has already been renewed for a sixth season, and the dark comedy Sweetpeawhich returns for a second season. In the film sector Tenzing with Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe. The company is also working on a new film series based on the children's classic The never-ending story.

The acquisition aligns with Mediawan's vision of fostering creative independence while providing a global platform for talent.
