Jennifer Salke is leaving the management of Amazon MGM Studios after seven years. Her departure is the result of internal power struggles, creative differences and financial failures. Her vision for the James Bond franchise in particular led to tensions with Barbara Broccoli, the brand's long-time administrator. Salke wanted to make Bond more accessible to a wider audience, for example with TV series and video games, which Broccoli strictly rejected. Instead, Mike Hopkins, Salke's superior, built a better relationship with Broccoli and eventually secured full creative control of Bond for Amazon.

In addition to Bond, the failure of the expensive series "Citadel" also played a role. The spy series produced by the Russo brothers was supposed to launch a worldwide franchise, but fell short of expectations. As many of Salke's costly projects did not generate a high return on investment, Hopkins withdrew her decision-making authority over new productions last year.

Hopkins is now using Salke's departure to restructure: TV and film departments report directly to him, and Salke's successor is not being appointed. Officially, this is presented as "streamlining". Despite her departure, Salke receives a production agreement with Amazon, which enables her to realise her own projects. Her time at Amazon had a significant impact on the studio - making it a relevant player in Hollywood, promoting female creativity and establishing series such as "The Rings of Power" and "The Boys". Her departure could indicate that Amazon is focussing more on efficiency and commercial success than creative risks in the future.
