Claus Grewenig, CEO of VAUNET and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of RTL Germany, has welcomed the latest efforts of the Minister of State for Culture and the Media. He emphasises that the swift implementation of measures to protect media diversity and regulate large tech platforms is an important signal for compliance with the coalition agreement.

Grewenig emphasised that it is crucial to protect the existing diversity of media in Germany, as market conditions are increasingly shifting in favour of large tech companies. The growing influence of artificial intelligence, which is further exacerbating the challenges for traditional media, is particularly problematic.

VAUNET emphasises that a precise definition of which companies are affected by the measures and a targeted implementation without state influence in the distribution of resources are of great importance.

VAUNET is also calling for more than just the refinancing options for private media to be secured. Further development of platform regulation to ensure that journalistic content can be found more easily and the creation of fair cooperation opportunities in competition law are also important steps to strengthen the position of media companies.
