Berlin, 31 March 2026 - With the accession of PROG Producers of Germany e.V. and the Berufsvereinigung Filmton e.V. (bvft), the Respect Code Film continues to grow in importance. The agreement is the first cross-industry set of rules that defines binding principles for respectful, non-discriminatory and safe behaviour in film and television productions.

The code was developed on the initiative of the Production alliance, ver.di and the Bundesverband Schauspiel e.V. has been developed. The aim is to establish clear standards for cooperation on set and to actively counter misconduct such as harassment, discrimination or violence.

PROG, the organisation representing the interests of producers, and bvft, which represents professionals from the sound sector in particular, are two further relevant professional groups that have signed up to the code. Both organisations thus underline the growing industry-wide willingness not only to discuss social standards, but to anchor them structurally.

The statements from those involved make it clear that the Respect Code Film should not be seen as a symbolic declaration of intent, but as a practical tool for everyday production. In addition to preventative measures, the code also provides for clear responsibilities and contact points for those affected. A central role is played by the Themis confidential counselling centre against sexual harassment and violencewhich acts as an independent advice and complaints centre.

For production companies, the implementation of the code means greater responsibility in terms of work culture and duty of care. At the same time, it is emphasised that the code should not lead to additional bureaucracy, but should complement and support existing processes in a meaningful way.

Throughout the industry, the Respect Code Film is increasingly seen as part of a larger development: away from purely economically organised production processes towards more standardised social and ethical framework conditions. In view of the shortage of skilled labour, growing competitive pressure and increasing demands for sustainable production, the topic of work culture is also becoming more relevant from an economic perspective.

The new signatories continue the trend of establishing common minimum standards for respectful cooperation in the film industry - a step that is likely to be important for production companies as well as for clients and employees in the long term.
