The Walt Disney Company is continuing its restructuring and is once again cutting several hundred jobs. Various divisions are affected, including ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television and the studios division. Within the film business, the job cuts are primarily affecting Pixar Animation Studios.

The cuts are being made despite successful cinema releases: Pixar’s „Toy Story 5“ is currently shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of the year and is on the verge of reaching the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. Nevertheless, the animation studio is being hit particularly hard as part of the current restructuring.

According to sources close to the company, the cutbacks at Pixar are primarily focused on the areas of production and operational processes. Disney attributes these measures to an ongoing review of its corporate structures and an adjustment of resources to reflect the changing conditions in the media industry.

Back in April, Disney had already cut around 1,000 jobs, including in the marketing departments of the studios, the television division and the technology departments. At the time, CEO Josh D’Amaro had announced further measures to improve efficiency.

The latest round of job cuts is linked to Disney’s strategy of exercising greater control over production expenditure and producing less content exclusively for streaming platforms. Instead, the group is once again placing greater emphasis on cinema films with long-term exploitation across cinemas, streaming and other business areas.

For Pixar, this development comes at a time when the studio is trying to reposition itself following several difficult years. Whilst sequels such as *Inside Out 2* and *Toy Story 5* have been major box-office hits, some recent original films have had significantly smaller audiences.
