The German Federal Film Board (FFA) has launched its digital service portal for applications to the German Film Fund (DFFF I) and the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF). Production companies can now submit funding applications via the online platform. From 1 September 2026 this route will become compulsory; up to and including 31 August The FFA is still accepting applications for both funding schemes by email.
With this change, the FFA is continuing the digitalisation of its funding procedures. Companies that are not yet registered on the service portal must create an account and enter their master data before submitting an application. Applicants who are already registered – for example, through other funding programmes or in connection with environmental standards – can also use their existing login details for DFFF I and GMPF.
In future, all funding decisions for DFFF I and GMPF will also be issued via the service portal. The following remains exempt from this change: DFFF II: Applications for this funding scheme will continue to be accepted exclusively by email.
The DFFF I and GMPF incentive schemes are among the federal government’s most important funding instruments for film and high-end TV series productions in Germany. The FFA recommends that production companies which have not yet used the service portal register at an early stage so that funding applications can be submitted without delay.
