The members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) have ratified the four-year contract negotiated with the AMPTP by a large majority. This means that the agreement reached in the spring has now been officially confirmed. The contract includes adjustments to remuneration, improvements in the area of health insurance and regulations on the use of artificial intelligence in screenwriting.
At the same time, the actors' union SAG-AFTRA has resumed its negotiations with the AMPTP. These had previously been interrupted after the WGA had agreed on its new collective labour agreement. A multi-year agreement is also being sought for actors and actresses.
Industry observers see the quick agreement at the WGA as a positive signal for the ongoing talks. At the same time, issues relating to AI, remuneration and production conditions in particular remain key points of contention in the US entertainment industry.
The current collective bargaining rounds are also considered to be trend-setting for the upcoming negotiations with the DGA trade union.
