How Nielsen has published in its latest figuresIn October, TV broadcasters achieved gross revenues of 1.91 billion euros. This represents a slight decline compared to the previous year, when 1.92 billion euros were reported.
It should be noted that the Nielsen data is based on list prices and factors such as discounts, self-promotion and barter transactions are not taken into account. As a result, the TV broadcasters' actual revenues are often significantly lower. Nevertheless, the figures provide a valuable orientation for the general development of the advertising market.
For the first time, broadcasters recorded lower revenues in October than in the same period last year, underlining the tense market situation: RTL Group has already revised its expectations for advertising revenues in the current year downwards, while ProSiebenSat.1 even expects a decline in entertainment advertising revenues compared to 2023.
Nevertheless, according to Nielsen, gross advertising revenue from television between January and October 2023 is 8.1 per cent higher overall than in the previous year. Double-digit growth was even recorded until the end of August, but the trend is now weakening. The overall advertising market is currently up 7.1 per cent. In October, gross advertising revenue for all media types together totalled EUR 3.59 billion, which is even slightly above the level of October 2023.
