Berlin, 8 December 2025 - The German Association of Technical Film and Television Companies (VTFF) is sounding the alarm: the situation in German film and television production continues to worsen. According to the association's latest autumn monitor, two thirds of technical and creative service providers are struggling with declining sales, while 85 per cent of production companies rate the economic situation as poor or very poor. The forecasts for 2026 are also gloomy.
The VTFF is therefore calling on the federal government to take immediate action. Key points are the release of the promised funding totalling 250 million euros from the DFFF and GMPF as well as measures to stop the migration of projects abroad. In particular, productions financed by ARD and ZDF are increasingly being realised outside Germany, to the detriment of domestic studios, VFX service providers and post-production companies.
In addition, it must be ensured that production budgets are increasingly realised in Germany again from January 2026 in order to secure jobs and increase value creation in Germany. The VTFF is calling for clear political signals to ensure that Germany remains a reliable and attractive location for films and high-quality series.
"The German film and television industry now needs quick decisions and a clear course. We cannot afford another lost production year," emphasises VTFF Managing Director Achim Rohnke.
