Following the quick agreement with the Writers Guild of America drives the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers The next collective bargaining negotiations are progressing: both sides have announced that talks with the actors' union SAG-AFTRA will continue on 27 April - earlier than previously expected.
AMPTP and WGA had previously agreed on a new framework agreement with a term of four years after less than three weeks over the Easter weekend. The agreement is still subject to approval by the union members, but is already seen in the industry as a signal for a more constructive negotiation phase overall.
Against this backdrop, the talks with SAG-AFTRA are now gaining in importance. The current contract expires at the end of June, so the time pressure is correspondingly high. Among other things, the negotiations centre on regulations on the use of artificial intelligence and issues relating to health and pension provision.
At the same time, the next round of negotiations has already been announced: In May, the AMPTP also wants to start talks with the government union. After the massive upheaval caused by the industrial action in 2023, the industry is now looking forward to a phase of greater stability.
